I've been thinking about the question: "if you were getting started with
Eclipse plugin programming, how would you start? What are the top 5
must-have resources, the best "timesaving tips and tricks for finding what
you need to know", etc. In other words, if knowing now what you knew 5 years
ago you could go back in time, grab yourself by the shirt collar, and say
"hey, dummy, here's what you need to know"... what would those things be?
What keeps you productive and rockin?
I'm asking this for myself somewhat in the context of eclipse
programming, but also because as a former teacher and current mentor (albeit
not in eclipse programming) I'm curious about the topic and always
interested in "secrets of the masters" type stuff.
This came up during a conversation along the lines of "Pick any language out
there that you know nothing about. Imagine you have to learn it. How would
you proceed?" And while Eclipse isnt' a language, it's certainly a sizeable
ecosystem.
thanks!

These are my top 5 (from RCP Developers view)
1. Read carefully. Take your time to understand !
2. Find a good tutorial (e.g. www.vogella.de)
3. Look @sources
4. www.eclipse.org/articles
5. news.eclipse.org
Last but not least:
avoid books with complex example Apps
