Custom Eclipse Distribution [message #331740] Fri, 19 September 2008 00:30 Go to next message

Hi,

What is the best approach to create a custom Eclipse distribution?

'My Custom Distribution' =
'Eclipse Platform Runtime Binary Distribution'
+
'My Features & Plug-ins'

Currently, I am instructing my customers to download the Eclipse
Platform Runtime Binary distribution, and add my plug-ins using the
update manager.

I'd like to make it easy for my end users and distribute the Eclipse
Platform runtime Binary with my plug-in already installed.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Amir

There are a few options. For one, look at the Eclipse Packaging Project
(EPP - http://www.eclipse.org/epp/) which produces the pre-packaged
combinations of various Eclipse plugins you see at
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
Specifically, see this wiki page about how to create your own package
locally: http://wiki.eclipse.org/EPP/How_to_build_a_package_locally
Also, EPP has its own newsgroup eclipse.technology.packaging where you
can ask questions about it.

If you want something that is probably a little easier to use but don't
mind a commercial, third-party solution, take a look at Pulse:
http://www.poweredbypulse.com/

Finally, for an interesting but "beta" project, check out this blog
posting:

Hope this helps,
Eric
