I have a plugin that does highlighting of source files via
marker-annotations. The problem is when sources are large and have lots
of highlighting--it can take a minute and a half to add 1000-2000 markers
to the file.

Is there a way to boost the speed in which hilighting is performed, or
perhaps an alternate mechanism with better performance?
