What happened to the feature concept in Ganymede [message #329736] Wed, 02 July 2008 06:04 Go to next message

Hi!

I'm a bit confused about features in the new eclipse 3.4. Previously (3.3)
features were jar archives which were downloaded and stored in features/ by
the update manager. In 3.4 the update manager still shows 'features' for
selecting which software components to install, but it does not seem to
store them in the features/ directory anymore. Could someone please point
me to documentation explaining the changes? Where are features stored in
eclispe 3.4, and what about a shared installation? If features are not
stored in the bundle pool, how does another eclipse installation keep track
of them?

Cheers,
Florian

It's documented here: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Equinox_p2

Thanks for the link, but I read all the wiki pages and they do not explain
what happened to features. They explain that p2 relies on additional
metadata, but I want to know where eclipse stores the information about the
features it has installed feature.xml and the MANIFEST.MF) and how the
shared installation system works with respect to features.

Cheers,
Florian
