Hi All,

I have been generating the platform.xml dynamically for eclipse to
integrate eclipse plugins with our automated tooling environment.

I use the $HOME/eclipse directory as I can keep the eclipse install read
only and only modify platform.xml in a users environment.

However in eclipse version 3.3.0 things changed and some numbers where
added to the $HOME/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.3.0_XXXXXXXXX directory.

Thus I can no longer be sure what the directory structure I need to create
is.

I have seen in the following numbers so far on different sites around the
world with the exact same build of eclipse 3.3.2 (m20080221-1800):
(However the number seams quite stable on each site across different
servers.)

org.eclipse.platform_3.3.0_442142533
org.eclipse.platform_3.3.0_935758283
org.eclipse.platform_3.3.0_348091664

Please can someone tell me how this number is derived?
Can I predict what it will be?
Can I include the platform.xml from another "user writable" location,
where I will always know the path?

Many Thanks,

Jason

Hi All,

I have now found how I can get eclipse to create the .eclipse directory
without the user seeing any output:

eclipse -initialize -noSplash

I can now create and list the dir name before the user has started eclipse.

This now solves my problem.

Best
