Eclipse 3.4 and PDE: Cannot resolve installed plugins. [message #328634] Thu, 29 May 2008 07:18 Go to next message

After upgrading to Eclipse 3.4RC2 my plug-in projects cannot resolve the
dependencies to their required bundles any more.

In the MANIFEST.MF I get error like: Bundle "org.eclipse.emf.ecore"
cannot be resolved.
The plug-ins itself seem to be installed correctly, since I can use
their features (like the editors, menu actions, etc.) without problems.

Also, if I want to add new required plug-ins in the dependency editor, I
can only choose from the core eclipse plug-ins and the plug-in projects
in the workspace. None of the additional plug-ins that I have installed
(like EMF) are listed.
I have several plug-ins installed by extracting them into the dropins
folder. The PDE does not see any of them.

I also tried a new, empty workspace and I just created an "Empty EMF
Project". It also cannot resolve the required "org.eclipse.emf.ecore"
bundle.

I have really no idea how to get to the root of the problem, since I do
not get any error messages or similar.

Any help is appreciated.

Markus

I have a similar problem with Ganymede RC1 (from
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technolo gy/epp/downloads/release/ganymede/RC1/eclipse-rcp-ganymede-R C1-win32.zip).

I get no compiler errors; but, when I try and run my RCP app I get a
number of errors as shown in the attached log. It appears that one of
the errors is that plug-ins like org.eclipse.update.configurator are
looking for org.eclipse.equinox.common_[3.2.0,4.0.0) but not finding it.
org.eclipse.equinox.common_3.4.0.v20080421-2006.jar is in the plugins
folder.

I also tried this with RC2 from
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/S-3.4RC2 -200805230100/index.php
and had the same results.

Our app works fine on Eclipse 3.4M5.

Any ideas anyone?

A little more info:

I tried our app with the M6 and M7 releases. It works with M6 but NOT
with M7. The errors in M7 are the same as in RC1 and RC2.

You should open a bug report against Eclipse Platform/Runtime with steps
to reproduce asap.
If this is a serious bug, it needs to be investigated now.
3.4RC3 is today and it gets more and more difficult to put more changes in.

It turns out that this was a problem in the osgi.bundles line in our
config.ini file. Our original line was:

osgi.bundles=org.eclipse.core.runtime@2:start,org.eclipse.update.configurator@3:start

I had to change it to:

osgi.bundles=org.eclipse.core.runtime@4:start,org.eclipse.equinox.common,org.eclipse.update.configurator@4:start

Everything seems to start up fine. Hope I have not left anything useful out.

Since no one seems to have a solution or an idea how to get to the root
of the problem, I opened a bug report:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=236132
