Other than linking to a directory instead of a file, I'm not sure what
you mean.

It won't really work, because when you create a linked resource it is
assigned a "logical" name (that you specify) that is used to refer to it
in the project/workspace. If multiple selection was allowed, the UI
would get complex because you'd have to have a way to specify the
logical names for each of them.
