What does "hippie processor" & "hippie word completions" mean ?
What contributions does it bring to the standard Java Content-Assist
Mechanism ?

Thanks.

It's also known as tag-completion. In eclipse I'm less sure, but it
normally cycles through the open buffers offering completions at your
cursor.

One difference is it is not looking at java structure, just text
splitting of words.

And it works in any text editor (Edit > Word Completion [Alt+/]).
