Scripting Support by EASE EASE adds scripting functionalities to the Eclipse IDE. The main focus is on script execution within the context of the running IDE. There already exist several Eclipse projects that aide on project management, provide editor support and allow to execute scripts. EASE now adds the component to run scripts in the context of the running IDE and the underlying JDK. This provides access to java classes, to Eclipse, the workspace, its views and commands.

Getting Started To get started, simply install EASE, switch to the Scripting Perspective and enter script commands in the Script Shell view. You may check out this video tutorial or try it by following these steps. The upper section provides a JavaScript shell with an input field at the lower end of the view.

Registered Workspace Scripts Scripts meant to be used on a regular basis can be registered, so EASE knows about them and tracks them. You may store your scripts in the workspace, somewhere on the file system or even on a webserver providing directory index support. The Scripts Explorer view allows to easily access all registered scripts, to execute and edit them (for editable locations). EASE scans scripts for comment header that contain certain key : value pairs.

Writing Modules A module is a simple java class, providing some public methods. When a module gets loaded, EASE creates wrapper code in the target script language to access these public methods. Such methods are far more convenient to use than providing pure Java code. Furthermore they render your script more readable. Use existing java code The simplest way to create such wrappers is to use the wrap(instance) command, which is provided by the Environment module.
