As an update for our members, we recently held our annual All-Hands internal event, which is an opportunity for us as a totally remote work organisation, to bring together our team to share experiences and ideas that will allow us as a staff to better serve you and our communities.
I look forward to seeing many of you this year at the Open Community Experience (OCX), scheduled to take place on 22-24 October in Mainz, Germany. I'm excited about our new conference format and hope the community finds the new focus on collocated events valuable. I'm particularly happy that EclipseCon remains a key event and look forward to seeing both our regular EclipseCon attendees and those from our broad “community of communities” there. For me personally, OCX is the highlight of the year as I get the chance to reconnect with each of you - please do seek me out to say hello.
I also want to draw attention to the new Open Regulatory Compliance (ORC) initiative. Sparked by the need to address the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act, this initiative is unique in that it is bringing together many other open source software foundations as well as our usual industry partners together with SMEs to establish common specifications for secure software development based on existing open source best practices. This initiative is vital to the software industry as a whole, and to our members in particular. I’m humbled by the trust shown by these organisations and commit to ensuring this is an open, respectful, and well-run process. I encourage all our members to engage with this initiative as the impact of this legislation and the resulting compliance requirements will be critical to virtually every member’s use of open source.
I encourage you to check our Annual Community Report if you haven’t already, as it reflects the progress and achievements of our community over the past year. I hope you find it a useful summary of the Foundation’s activities and operations. Please don’t hesitate to provide feedback.
I’m pleased to report that our membership remains strong. As of 31 May, we’ve 375 corporate members and 2,025 committers. Financially, we continue to execute on the 2024 financial plan. We’ve updated our forecast to reflect the investments we are making, including those in OCX and ORC. The Eclipse Foundation’s finances remain sound and are on target for 2024, with a budget that supports our continued significant growth and our strategic initiatives.
