As we close down the 3.2.2 maintenance release we are also looking forward to what to do in 3.3.0 as the next major release. As part of this we want to communicate a key change that we are intending to make.
As of the 3.3.0 release it is planned that the Hudson Server itself will only be supported on Java 7 and above. We currently build against Java 6 and test across Java 6, 7 and 8 but in this next major version we'd like to start to really take advantage of what the newer JDKs will offer us and move on up.
This change will have several side effects in terms of what application servers versions will be able to run the Hudson WAR and of course there will be a general up-levelling of any library dependencies that we have to JDK 7 compatible versions as well.
Note that this change will not preclude you from using Hudson to build Java 6 based applications, we only discussing the version of Java that Hudson itself runs on.
If you have any concerns about this planned change please do let us know, either in this thread, the developer mailing list or of course the bi-weekly community phone-call.
Thanks
Duncan
